Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal pleads in court regarding the alleged Rs 538 crore fraud case.

On Saturday, Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, accused in the alleged Rs 538 crore fraud at Canara Bank, pleaded before a special court in Mumbai with ‘folded hands,’ expressing that he has ‘lost every hope of life’ and stating that it would be ‘better if he dies in jail’ rather than continuing to live in his present condition.

Naresh Goyal filed a bail application before special judge M G Deshpande and appeared before the court on Saturday. Seeking a few minutes of personal hearing, Goyal’s request was granted by the judge.

Goyal paints a bleak picture of his physical health and personal life.

With folded hands and continuous tremors, Goyal expressed his precarious health. He revealed Anita’s bedridden state due to advanced cancer and their daughter’s illness. He highlighted the lengthy patient queue delaying his doctor visits, hindering follow-ups. His health makes in-person court attendance impossible. Though he insisted on this appearance for submission, he pledged to avoid such demands going forward.

The court assures Goyal of providing proper care for his mental and physical health.

The judge acknowledged all Goyal’s submissions, assuring him that he won’t be left helpless. The court pledged to provide comprehensive care for his mental and physical well-being, ensuring proper treatment. Additionally, the special court directed Naresh Goyal’s lawyers to take necessary measures regarding his health.

The next hearing is scheduled for January 16

Goyal cited multiple medical conditions and maintained his innocence in his bail application. The ED responded to his plea, scheduling further hearings for January 16. The case, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), stems from a CBI FIR involving Jet Airways, Goyal, his wife Anita, and former executives of the now-defunct airline.
